Every canvas print size guide has the same weakness: a list of numbers tells you almost nothing about how a canvas will feel in your room. "100x150cm" reads as an abstraction right up until it is leaning against your wall. So this guide does two jobs: first, the full chart of every canvas size we sell at Printcasso, in centimetres; second — the part people actually need — what each size compares to in real life: a person, a sofa, a queen bed, a door. Canvas sizes compared to a person (how big they really look)
Numbers, meet reality. Here is each size against four anchors most of us can picture: a 170cm adult, a 220cm three-seater sofa, a 153cm-wide queen bed and a standard door.
- 30x45cm — the long side reaches about knee height on an adult. A shelf, hallway and small-nook size, and happiest in pairs, like our Zest I canvas in its smallest option.
- 40x60cm — spans roughly shoulder-to-fingertip on an outstretched arm. Right for compact walls and stacked arrangements.
- 50x75cm — the long side is about dining-table height (75cm). The classic "first proper canvas" size for bedrooms and studies.
- 60x90cm — the long side matches kitchen benchtop height; hung landscape it covers about 40% of a three-seater. A confident mid-size.
- 75x100cm — one metre long: hung landscape above a queen bed it spans about two-thirds of the bed's width, which is the designer sweet spot.
- 80x120cm — the long side runs from an adult's hip to well past their head. Landscape, it covers just over half a 220cm sofa.
- 100x150cm — the long side is almost exactly a queen bed's width, and about 68% of a three-seater sofa: the ideal above-sofa statement.
- 115x150cm — same 150cm span, a taller drop; nearly wall-filling above a sideboard.
- 122x162cm — our largest: stood on end it is only 8cm shorter than a 170cm person, and noticeably wider than a standard 82cm door leaf. Landscape, it spans about three-quarters of a three-seater. This is furniture-scale art.
Stretched canvas vs floating frame: what the names mean for size
On every canvas product page you will see the options Stretched, Oak, Black and White. "Stretched" is the classic frameless canvas — the image wraps the edges. Oak, black and white are the floating-frame finishes: a slim timber shadow-box frame around the canvas with a small deliberate gap, so the artwork appears to float. Size-wise, allow roughly 2–3cm extra on each dimension for a floating frame — worth remembering when a spot is tight. Both styles are hand-framed in Australia and arrive ready to hang.
Horizontal, vertical and square: which shape for which wall
Every rectangular size above comes in both orientations, so the real question is the wall's shape. Canvas sizes vs paper print sizes: don't mix the systems
One frequent confusion: canvas sizes and art-print sizes are different systems. Paper prints follow the A-series — A4, A3, A2 — while canvas uses the chart above, and the two do not line up neatly (a 60x90cm canvas is bigger than an A1 print). How big is a 50x75cm canvas really?
About the size of a bar stool seat to the floor: the long side is dining-table height (75cm). It suits bedroom walls, studies and hallways — noticeable, but not dominant. (If you have seen 50x70cm quoted elsewhere, our nearest size is 50x75cm.)
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
Aim for 60–75% of the sofa's width. Above a 220cm three-seater, that is our 100x150cm or 115x150cm hung landscape; a 122x162cm suits generous walls and modulars.
